Hello and welcome, I’m so glad you’re here! We’re celebrating the release of the new Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Himalayan Poppy Outline Stamp Set! If you arrived from lovely Terri Koszler’s blog, you’re right on track. If you want to hop along from the beginning, please visit the Altenew Card Blog. Be sure to check the bottom of this post for giveaway information and the full blog hop list.
This month I thought I’d try a bit of loose watercoloring which is out of my comfort zone. For inspiration and encouragement, I watched a few videos by Erum Tasneem over on Altenew’s and her own YouTube channels. I encourage you to check out her videos!
To start off, I used a bright gold embossing powder to heat emboss the Himalayan Poppy image onto a piece of watercolor cardstock.
Next, I used watercolor brush markers from the Tropical Fiesta and Autumn Festival sets, as well as a water brush marker filled with clean clear water, to color the image. I used Purple Wine and Fresh Lemon for the petals, and Lime and Just Green for the leaves. Altenew’s liquid watercolors are also available separately for use in a palette or on other non-porous work surface with any paint brush!
Once the floral image was dry, I wet the area around the flora image with clean clear water and then added Lagoon watercolor around the border of the image, pulling it out with the clear water-filled brush marker. When the blue layer was dry, I created splatter by loosely masking off the floral image with some Post-it notes and then splattering clean clear water over the blue. I let the drops sit for a minute or so and then dabbed them up with a clean paper towel.
When the panel was dry, I stamped the sentiment in black pigment ink and then adhered the card front to a card base.
