Good Days Start With Coffee

Hello and happy Monday!  Today’s an especially happy Monday for me, since I’m taking the day off of work.  I’ve got errands to run and chores to do, but I’m hoping to squeeze in some bonus crafting time 🙂

Today’s quick and easy card uses supplies from a few different companies: Altenew’s Coffee Love stamp set, Studio Calico’s Coffee by One Little Bird stamp set, and My Favorite Things’ Sun Ray stencil. Continue reading “Good Days Start With Coffee”

A Day Without Coffee Is Like…

Happy Monday!  I hope your week is getting off to a great start!

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I seem to post coffee-themed cards on Mondays.  I’m always sluggish in the mornings, but Mondays always present a special challenge!  Here’s another coffee card one using the Let’s Chat stamp set from Concord and 9th and the Coffee by One Little Bird stamp set from Studio Calico.

I started by heat embossing the cup and spoon images using Versafine Black Onyx ink and Hero Arts Ultra Fine embossing powder, which is clear, onto Ranger Distress Watercolor cardstock.  The heat embossing creates ridges that contain watercolor and I knew I would find it challenging to watercolor the narrow areas of the cup and spoon.

I did some very quick watercoloring using three Mijello Mission Gold colors: Burnt Umber for the coffee, Prussian Blue for the cup, and Ivory Black for the spoon.  I helped speed up the drying process with a heat gun and then used my anti-static powder tool to make sure that the coffee image was ready for heat embossing.

20180429_224401.jpgThe heart was stamped in VersaMark ink and this time I heat embossed with Hero Arts White Puff embossing powder which has a great texture that I know will come in handy around the holidays.

I cut out the cup and spoon using a Brother ScanNCut2 and set them aside.

For the card front, I trimmed a piece of Neenah Solar White 80# Classic Crest cardstock with the largest die from the Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Rectangles die set.  Then I stamped the saucer and sentiment in Versafine Black Onyx ink.

To assemble the card, I used liquid adhesive to adhere the spoon flat to the card and then I popped up the coffee cup with foam tape.   Finally, I adhered the card front to an A2-sized piece of gray Recollections Kraft cardstock and then in turn adhered that to an A2-sized card base.

Thanks for stopping by!

First I Drink The Coffee, Then I Do The Things

Hello!  I hope your week is getting off to a great start!

I just love this bunny from Honey Bee Stamps’ Blah Humbunny stamp set.  Today I’ve paired it with the Coffee by One Little Bird stamp set from Studio Calico to create this card that perfectly captures how I usually feel on Monday mornings.

I started by stamping the bunny and coffee cup onto Neenah Solar White #80 Classic Crest cardstock using Copic-friendly Hero Arts Intense Black ink.  I did some basic coloring using E31 and E35 for the bunny’s fur, E30 for the bunny’s foot pads and inner ears, and E50, E53, B32, and B34 for the coffee cup.  I filled in the bunny’s eyes with a black Saruka Glaze pen and then added little white dots with a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen.  Then I cut out the images using a Brother ScanNCut2 and set them aside.

For the card front I trimmed another piece of Neenah Solar White to 4″ x 5.25″ and stamped the sentiment in Versafine Black Onyx ink.  I adhered the bunny and then popped up the coffee cup using foam tape.  Finally, I adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base to finish up today’s card.

Thanks for swinging by!

Life Happens, Coffee Helps

20180419_184103.jpg

Happy happy Friday!  We survived another week!

I often think of coffee-themes on Sunday evening, when I’m dreading dragging myself out of bed on Monday morning to start another challenging week at work.  But today I was inspired by the My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge #381, specifically by the three small dots in the sketch that, for some reason, made me think of coffee beans (I must have been really tired!).

I started by blending Vintage Photo and Tea Dye Distress Inks onto a piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper.  I added some sprinkles of clean clear water, let it sit for about 10 seconds, and then dabbed it up with a paper towel.  Then, I blended more Vintage Photo over the resulting spots which gave the effect of a darker splatter, rather than a lighter splatter.

Then I used a mug and an espresso maker image from the Altenew Coffee Love stamp set and stamped them onto a scrap of Bristol Smooth using Copic-friendly Hero Arts Intense Black ink.  I used a few colors of Copics (C1 and C3 for the espresso maker, E31 and E35 for the mug, and R30 for the heart on the mug) for some very basic coloring.  In hindsight, I might have tried W1 and W3 for the espresso maker since the Cs look particularly cool compared to the rest of the card.  When I finished coloring, I cut out the images using the coordinating dies and set them aside.

The sentiment comes from Studio Calico’s Coffee by One Little Bird Stamp set.   I just love the sentiments in this set!  I stamped the sentiment in Versamark ink onto a piece of black Recollections cardstock, sprinkled Hero Arts white embossing powder of it, tapped of the excess, and hit it with my heat gun.

For the card front, I used a piece of Neenah Solar White 80# Classic Crest cardstock.  I cut out a circle using the second largest circle from the My Favorite Things Stitched Circle Inside & Out die set.  I adhered the inked Bristol Smooth piece behind the card front and then adhered the sentiment strip, all using liquid adhesive.  The coffee mug is also adhered flat onto the card, but I popped up the espresso maker with some foam tape.  Then, I stamped a trio of coffee beans from the Altenew set in Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  To finish, I adhered the entire card front to an A2-sized card base.

I hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for swinging by!
