Today we’re celebrating the release of the beautiful Altenew Build-A-Flower: Bearded Iris with a blog hop and giveaways! If you arrived from Verity Biddlecombe’s blog, you’re right on track. Check the bottom of this post for giveaway information and the full blog hop list.

I started off by stamping two irises, one in pink/reds and one in yellow/oranges. For a slightly softer look, I didn’t stamp the outline layer and instead skipped straight to the solid stamps. The red flower petals are stamped in Pink Pearl, Coral Bliss, Crimson, and Ruby Red. The yellow flower petals are stamped in Sunray, Chamomile, Snapdragon, and Marigold. I stamped the stems for both blooms in Firefly, Grass Field, and Shadow Creek, and then stamped a separate leaf image using the same greens. I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images and then set them aside.

For the background, I masked off most of an A2-sized piece of white cardstock, leaving about a 1″-wide stripe exposed. Using a large blending tool, I blended Sunkissed and Coral Bliss inks into the stripe, concentrating Sunkissed at the top and Coral Bliss at the bottom. To slightly deepen the colors at the edges of the gradient, I added a bit of Orange Cream at the top edge and Heart Beat at the bottom edge. I removed the masking paper and stamped the sentiment in black pigment ink, and then I trimmed 3/8″ off the length and width of the panel.

To assemble the card, I adhered the stemmed bearded irises with a combination of glue, adhesive dots, and foam tape (the different adhesives provide varied dimensions), and then I adhered the single leaf over the stem of the yellow flower.

To finish, I used foam tape to adhere the card front to an A2-sized card base.
