Encouragement Cards, Just Because Cards

Hero Arts August 2022 Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello and welcome! It’s release day at Hero Arts and we’re celebrating the adventure-themed August release with a blog hop full of inspiration and a giveaway. If you’ve arrived from visiting Pocono Pam, you’re right on track!

Adventure lies ahead with this month’s kit. The desert southwest is your destination as you create beautiful landscapes with the kit’s layering stencils. Four ink colors are included to get you started, but a rainbow of possibilities await. Add some glistening shimmer with PearlEx powder. There are dies to cut out the desert elements, and a message set with greetings that are great for cardmaking and journaling alike. Be wild and free as you enjoy the creative journey!

I started off by using the layering stencils to stencil the beautiful desert scene. I used Peony, Cotton Candy, and Pale Tomato inks for the red rock formations, and Sand, Green Apple, and Moss for the foreground and cacti. I also created another set of red rock formations, this time flipping the stencils over for a mirror image of the first image. I used the coordinating dies to cut out both images (for the mirror image, I used a light shining through my cardstock panel to help me align the die to the back of the image).

For the background, I used a blending brush to blend Aquatic ink at the top of a panel of Arctic cardstock. I stamped the sentiment in Onyx pigment ink and then used foam tape to adhere both layers of scenery. To finish, I adhered the card front to a card base.

My second card features the new Looking Glass Forest & Mountains die set paired with the Paper Layering Window Shutters die. I die cut the three layers of the mountain scene from white cardstock and used Copic markers to color them (YG01, YG23, YG25, and G07 for the greens, BG01, BG02, and B04 for the blues, and E71, E71, and E57 for the browns). I used foam tape to adhere the layers together and then added a white frame that I cut using the square frame from the Looking Glass Circle and Square Frames die set. Since the window opening is larger than the Looking Glass scene, this square frame helps hide the messy edges of my coloring.

Next, I scored and folded back the shutters and then glued the window frame to the square frame.

To finish, I adhered window to a white panel, stamped a sentiment, and then adhered the panel to a base of Granite cardstock.

Thank you so much for visiting! Your next stop is the lovely Jennifer Kotas! Be sure to read below for giveaway details.
