Hello Beautiful | Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Clematis & Artist Alcohol Markers Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello, there!

Today, we’re celebrating the Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Clematis & Artist Alcohol Markers Release and I have two cards to share with you! If you arrived from Norine’s blog, you’re right on track. If you want to hop along from the beginning, visit the Altenew Card Blog. Check the bottom of this post for giveaway information and the full blog hop list.

Hello Beautiful

My first card features the new Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Clematis stamp set. I began by stamping the image in black pigment ink onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ inch panel of watercolor paper. Next, I colored in the blooms using two watercolor brush markers: Purple Wine (from the Tropical Fiesta set) and Ultraviolet (from the Autumn Festival Set). I took the marker directly to the paper for an intense and deep color, starting with Purple Wine one each petal and adding Ultraviolet to the outer edge of each petal before the Purple Wine had dried.

Next, I colored the leaves using Limeade and Moss (both from the Spring Garden Set), also going direct-to-paper. When the leaves were dry, I scribbled light blue Sprint Breeze (also from the Spring Garden Set) onto my glass work surface and diluted it with clean clear water. Then, I used a clean small round paint brush to wet the negative area behind the flowers, leaves, and trellis with clean clear water. Using the brush, I picked up the diluted watercolor from my glass mat and painted the negative areas, pulling the blue out a bit past the trellis and into the open space of the card front. To finish, I stamped the sentiment and then adhered the card front to a card base.

I Admire Your Kindness

My second card features coloring using beautiful yellow and green markers from the new Sunshine Valley Garden Artist Alcohol Markers Set F and blooms from the Vintage Garden stamp set.

I began by stamping the large floral image, which includes a few leaves, in Permanent Black Crisp Dye Ink onto a Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 80# Classic Crest cardstock. I also stamped some of the extra leaves in the set. Next, I began shading each petal, starting with the darkest yellow from the set and following the lines in the stamp that indicate darker areas. Then, I added lighter yellows, blending out with flicking motions. I made sure to leave a lot of white space which looks light highlights.

I used the greens from the set to color the leaves and then I used the coordinating dies to cut out the images.

I created a background by splattering a bit of watered down black gouache onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of Neenah Solar White. When the paint was dry, I adhered the blooms with foam tape and tucked in the extra leaves around the image, adhering them with adhesive dots.

Next, I stamped a sentiment from the Tall Foliage stamp set onto a strip of Neenah Solar White and then used foam tape to adhere the sentiment to the card front. To finish, I adhered the card front to a card base.

  1. Wow do your colors ever pop! The clematis flowers are really pretty and they almost seem to reach out and grab you. I gotta say though, since yellow is my favorite color, the kindness card with the sunshine valley colors has my heart. I am going to pin that one for sure. ❤
