Hi there, I hope you’re having a lovely day!

Today we’re celebrating The Ton Stamp’s 2019 Fall release and I’m honored to part of the first day of a 3-day Instagram hop that’s chock full of inspiration and chances to win a stamp set from the new release!

the-ton-badgeFirst, a word about the Instagram hop.  You can find my post here, or you can start at the beginning of today’s hop by visiting The Ton Stamps.  I hope you’ll visit!

Second, I wanted to mention that I had the opportunity to meet the wonderful woman behind The Ton Stamps, Effie Cho, when I was at Junkie Fest in June.  I was able to take her class where she taught us how to watercolor with Ken Oliver Color Bursts. I do not consider myself to be very good at water coloring, but I felt so successful using the Color Bursts that I didn’t hesitate to try the same technique when I saw this gorgeous new stamp!

But, since I don’t have Color Bursts at home, I used Brusho which is essentially the same type of medium.  Brusho Crystal Colors are watercolor ink crystals that are in a powder form.

I started by using Wow! Embossing Pad and Judikins Translucent Gold embossing powder to heat emboss the gorgeous Dahlia Close Up 2 stamp onto Fabriano Artistico Extra White Cold Pressed watercolor paper.

Then, I sprinkled tiny bits of two Brusho colors (Vermillion and Gamboge) into separate wells of a palette.  I added just a drop of clean clear water to each well and then began watercoloring.  Using a round 2 brush, I picked up a bit of highly concentrated Vermillion and painted it along the inner edge of a petal.  Then, using a water brush pen, I started at the outer edge of the petal and painted inwards with clean clear water.  When the water met the Vermillion, it spread out towards the tips of the petals, softening the more it travelled.  I also helped it along using the water brush pen, ensuring that each petal was fully painted.  I repeated this process for each petal.

When the panel was dry, I repeated the process, this time using Gamboge, which is an orange-y yellow.  Adding the Gamboge over the Vermillion gave the flower a bit of a peach cast and some nice variation in color, which I love!

I decided not to color the leaves and moved on to work on the sentiment.

Onto a strip of vellum, I used Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and Hero Arts Ultra Fine clear embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment.  The sentiment is from The Ton Stamp’s Summer Blooms stamp set.  I wrapped the sentiment strip around the bottom of the watercolor panel and then secured it on the back with tape.

To finish, I adhered the watercolor panel onto an A2-sized card base.

Thank you so much for visiting!
