Old Is The New Black | Technique Tuesday National Scrapbook Day Blog Hop + Freebies

Hi lovelies, I hope your week has gotten off to a great start!

For the next four days, Technique Tuesday is celebrating National Scrapbook Day (May 4th) with a blog hop and freebies over in their shop! If you arrived from Emily’s blog, you’re right on track, and you can find the entire blog hop list at the bottom of this post.

For today’s card I used Technique Tuesday’s Sassy Birthday stamp set*, one of the sets available as an earned freebie from Technique Tuesday (see the instructions at the bottom of this post for how to qualify).

I started with a 4bar piece of Neenah Solar White 80# Classic Crest cardstock which I placed in a Misti stamping tool. For this repeated stamping technique, a stamp positioning tool is really helpful to achieve even spacing. I placed positioned the Happy Birthday stamp in the middle of the panel and stamped it with Catherine Pooler Limoncello ink. Then I wiped off the stamp, shifted my paper down 6/16″ and then stamped in Catherine Pooler Tiki Torch ink. I repeated this process until I reached the top of the card and then I started again from the center and shifted my card upwards until I reached the bottom of the card. When I was done with the background, I stamped the birthday cake and the sentiment in Copic-friendly Hero Arts Intense Black ink onto a small piece of Neenah Solar White. I colored the cake with RV52, RV63, and V06 and used some very light grays (T1 and T2) to add some shading to the plate. For a bit of extra color, I added small polka dots with a yellow Sakura Glaze pen.

I trimmed the sentiment down and then created a frame by cutting a slightly large piece of Neenah Solor White and coloring the edges with a yellow Copic marker. I adhered the two together and then backed the piece with foam tape before adhering it to the background. To finish, I adhered the background to a card base.
