Hi there, I hope you’re having a good week!

Today I’m excited to participate in my first Altenew blog hop, celebrating the new January release! If you arrived from Kymona Tracey, you’re right on track. If you want to start at the beginning, visit the Altenew Card Blog. Check the bottom of this post for the full blog hop list to see all of the beautiful projects everyone has made!

This month’s release is jam-packed with amazing products, including brand new masking stencils which I’ve never seen before! They coordinate with the stamp sets and make it super easy to do positive and negative masking with no fussy cutting. You read that right, NO fussy cutting! I didn’t use them for the projects I’m sharing today, but they are definitely creating more options for me so be sure to check them out in the show where they’re available individually, or as a bundle!

Hibiscus Garden 3D Die Set

The first project I’m sharing today uses the beautiful Hibiscus Garden 3D Die Set and a sentiment from November’s Handpicked Bouquet stamp set.

For this card, I decided to use Neenah Solar White cardstock and Copics instead of colored cardstock. I die cut all of the pieces of the flowers and leaves and then colored each piece separately, starting with darker colors for the bottom layers and transitioning to lighter colors for the top layers. I also did some easy flicking to add shading to each piece for even more depth once they were all assembled. I layered and adhered each of the flowers together according to the layering guide that comes with the set and then adhered them to an A2-sized piece of Neenah onto which I’d splattered a bit of black gouache. To finish, I stamped the sentiment in a black pigment ink and adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base.

Wonderland Stamp & Die Bundle

For the other card I’m sharing today, I used the gorgeous Wonderland Stamp & Die Bundle. I fell in love the moment I saw these blooms!

I started by heat embossing two of the flower images onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock. I chose a rose gold embossing powder that I thought would go well with the colors I planned to use. I smooshed some Distress Oxide Inks onto my work surface and then began painting with a water brush. I used Tattered Rose, Dried Marigold, Rusty Hinge, and a touch of Aged Mahogany for the petals, and Peeled Paint and Forest Moss for the stems and leaves. When the images were dry, I used the coordinating dies to die cut them out.

I stamped the sentiment, also from the Wonderland stamp set, in a black pigment ink onto an A2-sized piece of Neenah Solar White and then adhered the blooms using foam tape. To finish the card, I trimmed off the bottoms of the stems that were hanging off the edge of the card front and then adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base.

  1. Oooh!! These cards are stunning! I love the texture you added to the hibiscus flowers with your coloring. Your Wonderland card reminds me of ballerinas…the color, softness and grace.

  2. The hibiscus 3D is my fav from this release and it’s so nice to see several posts on this hop using the die set. I like your idea of cutting your die cuts from white and then colouring them. I have LOTS of scraps of CS but I don’t think they would necessarily match to create the look I would want to achieve.

  3. These are so beautiful! Love them both. This whole release is pretty amazing (aren’t they all? :-)), but I think what I like most are these 3D flower dies – they really simply pop off the panels, don’t they? And there aren’t many companies out there making these… I wanna get at least one set to play! 🙂

My #1 fave frome this release is the Hibiscus Garden 3D die set but I have SO many more faves and those Mask Stencils you mentioned are def. right up there on my list too! (Imagine, NO MORE cutting a mask. At least for this one! EEEK!) I am hoping they do all of their stencils this way from here on!

    1. Thank you so much!!! Lol, watching me in action might be like watching paint dry… I am very very slow 🤣. I have been playing with the masking stencils and love them! And I do think we’ll see more of them 🤞🏻. Happy weekend to you! ☀️💛
