Hi there, crafty friend, I hope your week is going well!
Today we’re celebrating the Altenew Watercolor Coloring Book & Watercolor Brushes Release (these items are also available separately)! If you arrived from Nicole Watt’s blog, you’re right on track. If you want to hop along from the beginning, visit the Altenew Card Blog. Check the bottom of this post for giveaway information and the full blog hop list.
To promote this release, Altenew is offering for FREE the brand new 6″x8″ Poppy Arrangement Stamp Set (worth $23.99) with every order of the new Florals Coloring Book and Watercolor Bundle from 2/11/2021 at 12:01 AM EST until 2/14/2021 at 11:59 PM EST. The free gift will be added to your cart automatically!
I started off by choosing one of the many gorgeous floral images from the Watercolor Coloring Book to watercolor. This 5″x7″ book has two each of twelve images for 24 total pages that are 300gsm. The one that called to me the loudest was this single bloom which is on two pages in the book, once printed with a black outline, and once printed with a very light gray outline that lends itself to no-line coloring. I opted for the light gray version.
Using a 2 round brush from the new Artists’ Watercolor Brushes – Detailed set and colors from the Artists’ Watercolor 24 Pan Set, I got down to painting. I added a drop of clean clear water into the Cherry Blossom paint well and then transferred a bit of the color into a palette. I added more clean clear water to the Cherry Blossom in my palette to water it down to a very very pale pink. Next, after lightly painting over the petals with clean clear water to wet them, I quickly painted all of the petals evenly (no shading) with this base. When the petals were dry, I increased the concentration of Cherry Blossom in my palette to darken it and then painted details and shading onto the dry petals (I did not re-wet the petals first, instead I used the wet-on-dry technique). I followed the printed curves and creases of the petals, and at the edges of the petals I used the curves to tell me where to add even more creases.
When the petals were again dry, I deepend some of the shadows by painting very diluted Shades of Purple into the creases.
I repeated this process for the center of the flower and for the stem and leaves using Pocketful of Sunshine and Fiery Sunset for the yellow and orange, and Rain Forest and Tropical Forest for the stem and leaves.
Next, I trimmed the panel to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and then adhered a heat-embossed sentiment from the Needlework Motif stamp set. To finish, I adhered the panel to an A2-sized card base.
Thank you so much for visiting! Read on below for giveaway information and for the full blog hop list. Your next stop is the wonderful Emily Midgett!
