I started off by creating the background. I placed a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of white cardstock in the embossing folder and ran it through my die cutting machine, following the sandwich instructions that came with my machine. I turned the resulting panel over so that the smooth side, with indentations pushed down into the panel, was facing up and used a Tim Holtz Medium Distress Brayer to brayer Seafoam ink over the panel. Then I trimmed 3/8″ off both the length and width of the panel.
Next, I worked on the sentiment. I used the four-piece layering stencil set, large blending brushes, and Sweets, Watermelon, Blush, and Peony Pawsitively Saturated inks to create the colorful striped sentiment. The stencils are very easy to line up, especially with the registration marks that are at the corners of each stencil. And, each layer of the stencil includes two sentiments (the other is “thank you”) so it’s an easy two-for-one! I used the coordinating dies to cut out the sentiment, cut two more sentiment shapes from heavy white cardstock, and then glued the layers together to make a heavier and thicker piece.
To assemble the card, I used foam tape to adhere the embossed panel to a 4.25″ x 5.5″ card base and then glued on the sentiment.

Looking for a way to express love, friendship, and joy to your loved ones? Look no further than the January 2024 My Monthly Hero Kit! Let your imagination run wild with the generous Color Layering Stencil set for countless possibilities. This flower-filled kit includes 5 Color Layering Stencils, Fancy Dies, a clear stamp message set, special watercolor paper, and inks: everything you need to create beautiful cards.
The Premium Kit includes additional elements to extend the potential for more cards and techniques – even more Creativity In The Box! In addition to all the Classic Kit components, the highlight of the expanded kit is an abundance of Fancy Dies. Hero Arts has also included Gold Leaf Flakes, a Sparkle Clear Lacquer Pen, and rounding out this generous kit is a beautiful Pink Gold Metallic Spray!
For my card today, I used elements from the Classic Kit. First, I used the stencils and blending brushes to create a floral panel. Though the kit comes with three gorgeous colors of ink, I used different colors from the Hero Arts line: Lemon Yellow, Creamsicle, Azalea, Grape Juice, and Mist. Then, I used the coordinating heart die to cut out a floral heart from the panel.
Next, for the background, I positioned the new Heart Burst stencil over a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of white cardstock and used the blending brush that I used with Grape Juice to brush lightly over the stencil. I did not re-ink the brush, there was plenty left on it from having blended the floral pattern. Then, I die cut the “love you” sentiment three times from white cardstock and stacked and glued the layers together to create a thicker sentiment.
To assemble the card, I used foam tape to adhere the heart to the background and then I glued the sentiment over top. Finally, I glued the card front to a top-folding card base.
And here’s another look at the card I shared over the weekend. This one uses elements from the Premium Kit.
