Love Cards

Sending Love | Hero Arts January 2023 Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello and welcome! It’s release day at Hero Arts and we’re celebrating the love- and Valentine’s-themed January release with a blog hop full of inspiration and a giveaway. If you’ve arrived from visiting Pocono Pam, you’re right on track! You can start from the beginning by visiting the Hero Arts blog.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the January My Monthly Hero kit celebrates the “perfect match”. The centerpiece of this kit is dies to create a faux matchbox, which lies flat on your card or project and can be decorated and filled with the numerous stamps and dies included in the kit. But don’t stop there, let your imagination go wild with all of the possibilities this kit contains! Use the images on their own, build repeating patterns, or add them to planner pages, journals, and more! There is a beautiful stencil included, perfect for backgrounds or mixed media projects. The kit is rounded out with a pack of fun heart-themed sequins and five sheets of gorgeous cardstock.

My first card today features just a few items from the jam-packed kit. I created the matchbox from white cardstock and then used blending brushes to blend Aquatic ink over the bottom of the box, letting the blue fade out towards the top. I did the same with the little box insert, and used Post-it tape to help mask the top and side of the insert to create more of a three-dimensional look.

Next, I cut the Love and the heart (I didn’t separate the little heart dies) out of Ultra Pink cardstock and again out of Coral cardstock. I inlaid the alternating colored pieces together and used clear tape on their backs to hold them together. Then, I glued the heart to the box insert and used foam tape to adhere the Love word to the matchbox. To finish the box, I slid the insert halfway into the matchbox and used clear tape on the back to hold the two pieces together

For the background panel, I used different widths of Post-it tape to mask of variegated stripes on a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of white cardstock (alternatively, you could use the new Stripe stencil for this). I let the color fade just a bit towards the top. Then, I used blending brushes to blend Ultra Pink ink over the panel. I removed the masks and then stamped the small sentiment and adhered the matchbox using double-sided tape. To finish, I glued the card front to a card base.

My second card features the new Hearts Hot Foil Plate, Love And Florals dies, and You’re Mine stamp and die bundle.

I hot foiled the heart background onto a paint-smooshed background from my stash and then used foam tape to adhere the Love letters. I added the stamped and die-cut sentiment over top and then glued the panel to a slightly larger panel of white cardstock. To finish, I used foam tape to adhere the card front to a card base made with Ultra Pink cardstock.

Thank you so much for visiting! Your next stop is Anna Mahtani from the Hero Arts global team. Be sure to read below for giveaway details.

  1. Both cards are great. My favorite is the first one, with the stripes, and I appreciate that you made it with supplies most of us have. Although I’m sure the stencil is very useful, it’s nice to know I can make that without. Thanks for sharing.
