Hi there and welcome to day three of the countdown to tomorrow’s Hero Arts release! The new kit and add-ons (and this link) go live tomorrow morning at 10am PT!

My card today uses a panel from my first day playing with a gel press. This month’s theme and the stencil that comes with the kit were perfect for playing with this new-to-me technique!

I started by getting out a 5″ x 7″ gel press and a brayer and a half sheet (5.5″ x 8.5″) piece of Dove White cardstock. Next, I smooshed three Reactive Ink colors onto the gel press: Fruit Punch at the bottom, Lemon Drop in the middle, and Splash at the top. I didn’t overlap the colors, instead I used the brayer to spread out the colors and overlap them a bit to create hints of orange and green.

Next, I quickly placed the stencil over the gel press and then placed the piece of Dove White cardstock on top. I used my hands to smooth the cardstock over the gel press making sure it made good contact over the entire gel press (a brayer or a baren can help with this, too, but hands are just fine!). Then I pulled the paper away to reveal the rainbow ink that had transferred to it. I trimmed the panel down to 4″ x 5.25″ and used foam tape to adhere it to an A2-sized panel of Pebble cardstock.

I stamped the sentiment, also from the new kit, in black ink onto Dove White cardstock and then used an oval die from the Nesting Ovals Infinity Dies set to cut it out. I used the next larger sized die from the set to cut another piece of Pebble cardstock and then I adhered the two pieces together.

To finish the card, I used foam tape to adhere the framed sentiment to the card front, and then I adhered the card front to a card base.

  12. I didn’t know what a baren was until you used the term and I just had to look it up! Maybe I will have to get one (a disk-like tool with a smooth bottom and a handle, used to press paper against an inked surface to lift up the ink). You made a lovely card.

  15. I’ve just started playing with a 5″ x 7″ gel press as well & I love it! I’m not that great at colouring & blending, so I can just let go of expectations & have fun. I really like this new stencil with all the space in between the lines.
