Friendship Cards, Miss You Cards

To The Best Friend | Simon Says Stamp Born To Sparkle Release Blog Hop Day 1 + Giveaway

Hi there, I hope you’re having a great day!

I’m feeling really giddy about being part of the Simon Says Stamp Born To Sparkle release blog hop, and I’m so glad you’re here! Today is day one of inspiration and ideas, so be sure to visit the Simon Says Stamp blog tomorrow to kick off day two!

If you’ve arrived from Natasha Vacca’s blog, you’re right on track. To start today’s hop from the top, visit the Simon Says Stamp Blog.

To The Best Friend

My first card today features the new Seedhead Stems Embossing Folder. The delicate details of this embossing folder are so pretty. For my card, I decided to try some no-line Copic-coloring, following along the ridges of the image. To be honest, the only seedheads I’m familiar with are dandelions but I felt like using pink, so pink it was!

I placed a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock into the embossing folder and ran it through my embossing machine. When using a new embossing folder, I always start with a very slim sandwich of cutting plates (sometimes even just a single cutting plate and the folder) and then add extra layers, one shim at a time, to build the right thickness to get a nicely embossed piece of paper without forcing too much thickness through my machine.

To color the outer little dots, I used RV04 and RV55; quick little taps and that’s all it took! I added a bit of RV66 to the other two pinks at the center of each seedhead. For the seedhead stems, the plant stems, and the leaves, I used YG21 and YG25, doing just the tiniest bit of blending and shading.

Next, I stamped the two parts of the sentiments which are both from the new Family Headline stamp set, in Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink and then finished off by adhering the card front to an A2-sized card base.

Miss You So Much

For my second card (which I shared on release day over on Instagram), I used the beautiful new 6″ x 9″-ish XL Rose Bouquet Stencil. This stencil is sized perfectly for a slimline card but I decided to stick with A2-size.

To begin, I used Post-it Tape to temporarily hold the stencil in place over an A2-sized panel of Neenah Solar White. I used extra bits of Post-it Tape to mask off the leaves, leaving the flowers and three small circles exposed. Then, using a blending brush (I used some from Hero Arts, and Simon Says Stamp also has their own pretty set), I blended on Altenew Maple Yellow Crisp Dye Ink. Then I blended a bit of Snapdragon at the centers of the large flowers and at the tops of the smaller buds.

I removed the masks from the leaves and masked off the blooms I just blended. For the leaves, I first blended Bamboo and then added shading with Grass Fields.

With the stencilling complete, I removed all of the masks and then trimmed the panel down to just under 4″ x 5.25″. I stamped the sentiment, from the Simon Says Stamp XL Greetings 2 stamp set, in Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. Once the ink was dry, I adhered the card front to a slightly larger piece of Simon Says Stamp Sunshine cardstock before using foam tape to adhere the framed card front onto an A2-sized card base.

Thank you so much for visiting! I’m the last stop in the hop today, so if you want to start from the top, head over to the Simon Says Stamp Blog. And don’t forget to start there tomorrow for another round of fun projects!

  2. I’m with you, I only knew of dandelions, but I’m sure there are pink “seedheads” somewhere. Gotta admit, that name makes me chuckle… sounds like a football team follower. Ha. The stencil is so so pretty, love the colors!

  3. Hi, Seeka – The Miss You So Much card is tranquilly beautiful, while for me the “to my best friend” card is imbued w/ a kind of energy from that bright green and intense magenta (or fuchsia)… both terrific cards. Thanks for sharing!
