Gobble Gobble! | Mirror Image Stamping and Die Cutting

Today I have a clean and simple card using a new sweet bear from Ellen Hutson and a mirror stamping and die cutting technique to turn one cutie into two!

I used the mirror stamping technique, which I learned from several of Jennifer McGuire’s videos, to create a pair of bears from one stamp.  I started by removing the foam mat from my Misti and placing the My Favorite Things Mirror Image stamp face up (stamping side up) in the part of the Misti where I would normally put my paper. If you don’t have the Mirror Image stamp, you can use the back of any large stamp, as long as it’s bigger than the image you want to stamp (in this case, the bear)  Then I positioned the bear from the Essentials By Ellen Bear Wear 4 stamp set onto the lid, so that it would stamp down onto the Mirror Image stamp. I inked up the bear with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and then stamped down onto the Mirror Image stamp to transfer the ink.  Then I quickly placed a piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock over the stamped image and rubbed over the paper to ensure that it made good contact with the ink and picked it all up.  The result is a perfect image!

Note that in order to get a good image, it’s best to use a pigment ink which stays wet longer.  I tried many times to use a Copic-friendly ink but didn’t have any luck in getting a crisp image transfer.

I stamped a second bear, the usual way, and then colored them.  I added a bit of color from a Ginger Arteza Real Brush Pen and then used a water brush pen filled with clean clear water to pull out the color.

I used the coorindating dies to die cut the “regular” bear the usual way and then, using my camera as a flashlight to shine through the cardstock, I aligned the die to the back side of the mirror image bear and held it in place with washi tape before running it through my die cut machine.

Then I stamped the little wishbone, drumstick, and fork, this time in Copic-friendly Hero Arts Intense Black ink so I could color them with Copics.  Then I die cut the images and set them aside to work on the background.

I used the Nocturne pigment ink to stamp a long textured stamp from the Winterscapes stamp set onto an A2-sized piece of Neenah Solar White.  I used the same ink to stamp the sentiment and then adhered the bears and wishbone with foam tape.  I tucked in the drumstick and fork and adhered them with glue.  Finally, I adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base.
