Hello lovelies! It’s release day at Pinkfresh Studio and I’m so excited to be part of their blog hop celebrating gorgeous new products. If you arrived from Rebecca’s blog, you’re right on track. If you want to start at the beginning, head over to the Pinkfresh Studio blog.
I’ve got two cards to share today with more to come in the next couple of days. Be sure to take a peek at the bottom of this post for the link to the blog hop list as well as for information about promotions and a giveaway!
Folk Hummingbird Stamp Set and Die Set
My first card features the beautiful Folk Hummingbird stamp set and coordinating dies. I don’t know much about folk art at all, but a most of what I see and what catches my eye uses a solid coloring and layering of colors, rather than shading. So, I went with a very simple color palette of blues and reds for this project.
I started by stamping the images in Copic-friendly Hero Arts Intense Black ink onto Neenah Solar White 80# Classic Crest cardstock. I did very simple and solid coloring using B32, B45, and B37 for the blues and RV42 and R24 for the reds. I did add a few additional sections to the flowers so that I could use two shades of red, without blending them together. I also extended the base of the branch a little bit, using a black Copic Multiliner 0.03 pen, so that it would reach the edge of my card.
I used the coordinating dies to cut out each image and then used each die three more times on scrap 110# cardstock. I did take some care with the floral image since I had extended the branch. To ensure that I didn’t cut off the extended part, I used the partial die cutting technique and then fussy cut the last half-inch of the branch. Then I stacked and adhered the layers together and adhered the colored die cut on top so that the pieces have a bit of dimension.
For the background, I used the same black pen and a ruler to draw a frame. Then I stamped the sentiment in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink.
To assemble the card, I adhered the two die cuts and then adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base.
Jar Full Of Hearts Die
For my second project I used the Jar Full Of Hearts die which is a cute little die perfect for a clean and simple card.
For this card I created an ink-blended background using Distress Oxide inks. I trimmed a panel of Neenah Solar White to 4″ x 5.25″, just shy of an A2-sized card. Then I used a foam blending tools to ink up the left side of the panel with Wild Honey and the right side with Worn Lipstick. Then I blended Ripe Persimmon in the middle, taking my time switching between colors to get a good blend between them. When I do a three-color blend, I tend to work towards the middle so I don’t accidentally run out of room for my third color.
While the panel was drying, I die cut the Jar Full Of Hearts four times, once out of Neenah Solar White 80# cardstock and three times out of scrap 110# cardstock. Even though I didn’t plan to color the top layer I wanted to use the Neenah because it’s such a pretty bright white compared to my non-Neenah 110# cardstock.
I stacked and adhered the die cuts together using a Zig Two-way Glue Pen. I love using glue pens to adhere intricate die cuts together because it’s so easy to get quick, even, and full coverage.
For the sentiment, I used a stamp from the Scripted Bold Sentiments 2 stamp set, from a release earlier in the year. I stamped it in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink onto a strip of Neenah Solar White which I trimmed at an angle at one end.
To assemble the card, I adhered the jar to the inked panel and then used a combination of foam tape and glue to adhere the sentiment. Where the sentiment overlaps the jar is where I only used glue, since the jar itself already has dimension. Finally, I adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base.
