Altenew February 2019 Blog Hop Graphic

Hi there, I hope you’re having a good week!

Today I’m thrilled to join the Altenew February 2019 release blog hop, celebrating the new release that’s available today! If you arrived from Reiko Tsushida, you’re right on track. If you want to start at the beginning, visit the Altenew Card Blog. Check the bottom of this post for the full blog hop list!

Beautiful Peony Stamp & Die Bundle

My first project uses the beautiful flowers from the Beautiful Peony Stamp & Die Bundle and a sentiment from the Reason to Smile stamp set, which is full of beautiful sentiments.

I started by using Wow! Embossing Pad and Wow! Inca Glintz Embossing Powder to heat emboss many of the flowers and leaves onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock. Then, I smooshed a selection of Distress Oxide inks onto my work surface: Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, and Ripe Persimmon for the flowers, and Shabby Shutters, Twisted Citron, and Peeled Paint for the leaves. Using a small round brush and a bit of clean clear water, I began watercoloring. I started by laying down a solid layer of the lightest colors and then added dabs of increasingly darker colors to create shading. When the images were dry, I used the coordinating dies to die cut them out.

For the background, I used Versafine Clair Nocturne ink to stamp the sentiment onto an A2-sized piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock, and then I splattered a bit of watered-down Shabby Shutters over the entire panel.

I backed the flowers with foam tape and adhered them to the panel, and then I tucked in the leaves, adhering them with Zots Bling adhesive dots. To finish, I adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base.

Frilled Petals Stamp & Die Set

This card uses the pretty blooms from the Frilled Petals Stamp & Die Bundle and a sentiment from the Botanical Silhouettes stamp set, both from the new release. For the background, I used the Layered Plaid Cover Die B which came out sometime last year, I think.

I stamped the blooms and stems in Copic-friendly Hero Arts Intense Black ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock. Then I colored using RV52, RV63, V05, V06, and V09 for the flowers, and G42, YG61, and G46 for the stems and leaves. I used the coordinating dies to cut out the elements and set them aside to work on the background.

I used the plaid cover die to cut a panel of Neenah Solar White. Not all of the small pieces fell out immediately and I decided that I really liked the random look. I adhered that panel to an A2-sized piece of Neenah Solar white and then used glue dots and foam tape to adhere the flowers and stems.

I used white Hero Arts embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment, from the Botanical Silhouettes stamp set, onto a strip of black cardstock and then adhered that to the card front with foam tape. To finish, I adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base.

  5. Such gorgeous cards! I especially love the first one, cause I never use yellow nearly enough myself, and I always love it when others do! 🙂 I love the peony set most from this release, I think, but there are loads of amazing new products (yet again!) that are on my wish list now, LOL!
